Chevy Chase Village
After completing a home renovation, these clients were ready to tackle their backyard. Of primary importance was creating a link between their off-street parking area and their back entrance.
To create a sense of arrival and presence from the street, stone columns frame a chartreuse door with custom iron detailing echoing the pattern of the window mullions from the front of the house. A iron railing, special sconces, and a custom fence stained off black further detail and frame the garden.
To enlarge and make the best use of the backyard, several outdoor rooms were created by cleverly carving up space with hardscape and plantings. A water feature from Campania frames the view from the back door, and the sound of falling water diffuses the sound of nearby traffic.
The garden is elegant, functional and restrained – a true oasis in the city.
