Chevy Chase Village
This garden had natural charm that only needed to be enhanced, with the historic patina maintained. Executed in many stages, it’s an example of a true client/designer partnership that extends beyond garden design to outdoor styling with selected furniture, light fixtures and an armillary placed in the garden.
Elegant in its simplicity and attention to detail, the garden features custom iron work, rebuilt paths and walkways using aged stone and brick augmented with new material, custom tromp d’oile trellis work, and a restored pond featuring a cast lead fountain. A side path was converted to a bocce court for extended play, and the entire property is beautifully lit to extend the entertaining.
The planting palette is restrained but detailed, with evergreen boxwoods, magnolias, osmanthus and yews providing structure, with successions of white flowering hydrangeas, bulbs and perennials adding seasonal interest. An ancient wisteria vine anchors the pergola and pink dogwoods and a Seiryu Japanese Maple provide an understory canopy.
